Detailed Kenya Wildlife Safari Itinerary
Morning (7:00 AM)
Your adventure begins with pickup from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Meet your expert safari guide and travel companions before departing for Lake Naivasha, stopping at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for breathtaking panoramic photos of the valley floor 450 meters below.
Afternoon
Arrive at your lakeside lodge in time for lunch. After settling in, embark on an optional boat safari on Lake Naivasha (2:00 PM - 4:00 PM). Glide across calm waters while observing hippos wallowing in the shallows, fish eagles diving for prey, and over 400 species of birds, including pelicans, cormorants, and African spoonbills. Optional walking safari on Crescent Island to walk among zebras, giraffes, and wildebeest.
Evening
Enjoy sunset views over the lake, followed by dinner at your lodge. Evening briefing about tomorrow's adventure.
Morning (7:00 AM)
After breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving mid-morning. This alkaline lake is world-famous for its massive flamingo populations (sometimes over 2 million birds) that create a stunning pink ribbon along the shoreline.
Afternoon
An extensive game drive through Lake Nakuru National Park's diverse habitats. Beyond flamingos, the park is a rhino sanctuary and home to both black and white rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, lions, leopards, buffalo, and the endangered tree-climbing lions. Drive through acacia forests, open grasslands, and along the lakeshore—picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint overlooking the lake.
Evening
Continue game viewing until late afternoon, then check into your lodge. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Morning (8:00 AM)
After breakfast, embark on the scenic drive to Masai Mara National Reserve, passing through the dramatic escarpments of the Great Rift Valley and traditional Maasai villages. Stop for photos and refreshments along the way.
Afternoon
Arrive at your Mara camp/lodge in time for lunch and check-in. After a brief rest, head out for your first game drive in the Masai Mara (4:00 PM - 6:30 PM). The golden afternoon light is perfect for photography as you begin your search for the Big Five: lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos. The Mara is also home to cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, and massive herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles.
Evening
Return to camp for dinner under the African stars. Listen to the sounds of the wild as you enjoy traditional Kenyan cuisine.
Morning (6:00 AM)
Rise before dawn for an early morning game drive—the best time to spot predators on the hunt. Watch the sunrise paint the savannah gold as nocturnal animals return to their dens and the plains come alive with activity. Track lion prides, witness elephants at waterholes, and search for the elusive leopard resting in acacia trees.
Mid-Morning
Return to camp for a hearty breakfast and relaxation time. Optional activities include a visit to a traditional Maasai village (additional cost: $20-30 per person) to learn about Maasai culture, customs, and traditional jumping dances.
Afternoon
After lunch and siesta, enjoy a picnic at the Mara River—famous for Great Migration river crossings (July-October). Continue game driving across different sections of the reserve, exploring the Musiara Marsh (excellent for lions) and open plains teeming with wildlife.
Evening
Sunset game drive followed by return to camp. Optional bush dinner under the stars (inquire with your guide).
Morning (6:30 AM)
Optional final early morning game drive (5:30 AM - 7:30 AM) for last-minute wildlife sightings—highly recommended for serious photographers and wildlife enthusiasts. After breakfast, begin the journey back to Nairobi.
Afternoon
Stop at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (if timing permits - opens 11:00 AM) to watch orphaned baby elephants during their feeding time and mud bath. Learn about elephant conservation and the Trust's remarkable rescue and rehabilitation work.
Visit the Giraffe Centre where you'll hand-feed endangered Rothschild giraffes from a raised platform—a magical eye-to-eye encounter with these gentle giants. Learn about conservation efforts to save this critically endangered subspecies.
